When we talk about biodiversity it is difficult to ignore a group such as the beetles which – with almost 400,000 species described and with realistic estimates that situate this figure above a million – is established as the indisputable paradigm of the nature’s diversifying power. In this lecture, we will explore the structure and causes of this extraordinary diversity of life forms, as well as the massive challenge that preserving this unique treasure represents.
