In this lecture, the speaker will analyse, from the standpoint of urban anthropology, some of the great transformations that are taking place on the continent of Africa. To that end, she will examine a specific case study that is based on a presentation of the contemporary historical centrality of the island of Bioko in Equatorial Guinea through Malabo. This will help the audience to gain a better understanding of the everyday lives of an urban population that is diverse, segmented and very hierarchical, and which includes native-born and immigrant groups with little visibility or power.
