We know that our knowledge of chemical communication in insects is fundamental for the development of new approaches to a comprehensive pest control. Among these approaches, our group has concentrated in recent years on the design, chemical synthesis and assessment of biological activity in the laboratory and the field of chemical communication inhibitor compounds in insects, in order to prevent, as far as possible, the attraction and copulation behaviour that is regulated by sexual pheromones. In this lecture, the speaker will present the current status of our research into antagonist compounds for sexual pheromones in insects, as well as the research being carried out for their possible use in the future development of a pest control that is more specific and environmentally friendly.
