Depression is a serious psychiatric illness that has a huge socio-economic impact. This is due to its high incidence rate, the lengthy duration of depressive episodes and the low effectiveness of antidepressant treatments, which only achieve a total remission of symptoms in around 30% of patients. In this lecture, the speaker will be reviewing the strategies for identifying new therapeutic targets and for developing treatments that are faster and more effective than existing ones.
