Owing to the high contamination levels and the financial outlay that are involved in generating electricity, we have been forced to explore alternative energy sources. These include photovoltaic solar energy, which converts light energy into electrical energy. Grätzel solar cells (aka Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells, or DSSC) use organic compounds called “dyes” or colorants, and which can be natural or synthetic, like photoactive material, inspired by photosynthesis.
