Lectures on the History of Women’s Work in Catalonia, 18th-20th century

The work that women do, in all its different forms, is something that has long been concealed from history. The prevailing idea we have been taught is that it was only men who were in paid employment, while women took care of the home and looked after the family. Even so, this preconceived idea is beginning to fade away thanks to the research that North American and European women historians have been carrying out for some years. In Catalonia, despite the fact that this type of research began much later, and has not been carried out to such a great extent, we have now reached a point where we can offer an overview of the different kinds of paid work that women have done, as workers, artists, professionals or businesswomen.
