Old age and the ageing process represent a test for the transformation of Western medicine. The chronic nature acquired by certain illnesses and better quality of life have played a decisive role in the fact that people are living longer. However, how does the fact of living longer affect the relationship with the doctor? Are we sufficiently trained with respect to ageing in a quality manner? To what extent does old age force us to view medicine in a more general, less specialist manner and to act in working teams and less on the individual level?
