Model creatures. Between nature and the laboratory

Travelling exhibition produced as part of the science popularisation project Ciudad Ciencia, an initiative promoted by CSIC and la Obra Social "la Caixa". It is an adaptation of the virtual exhibition created by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in 2011, thanks to funding from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology: www.seresmodelicos.csic.es

The main characters of this exhibition are creatures that are small, not particularly attractive and sometimes even bothersome to us. But in spite of this, they are model organisms. While they might go unnoticed in their natural habitat, they generate great enthusiasm in research centres. We are referring to seven species, including the mouse and the fruit fly, which have parallel lives between nature and the laboratory.

‘Model creatures. Between nature and the laboratory’ explains how these species live in their own natural environment, and later when they are brought into research centres. The exhibition also covers some of the most important studies scientists have been able to carry out to date thanks to these creatures.

Opening hours:
Tuesday – Friday: 17:00h-20:00h
Saturday: 11:00h-14:00h and 17:00h-20:00h
Sunday:11:00h – 14:00h
