Mutualistic networks of species: the architecture of biodiversity
The mutualistic interactions between plants and the animals that pollinate them or disperse their seeds form complex dependency networks between species. These networks have a general architectural pattern that increases their robustness against extinctions, and which maximises the number of species that can coexist together. Thus, mutualistic networks represent the architecture of biodiversity.
