The year 2010 was the 50th anniversary of the construction of the first laser, a discovery that was hailed as "the perfect solution to a problem". Since then the scenario has changed radically; laser light has become established as one of the most versatile scientific, technological and industrial tools in existence. Its impact is transversal; from the purist theory to the very frontiers of man’s knowledge. This lecture will deal with some of these frontiers, such as ultrashort, ultrafast, ultradelicate, ultrasoft and ultracold.
