As 2015 has been designated the International Year of Light, it seems an ideal occasion to discover how light science and technologies (which cover the field known as photonics) are influencing our everyday lives. Photonics has become a cross-disciplinary science, in which light is forging new tools that allow us to solve problems and overcome limitations in many different fields, from quantum physics to medicine, as well as in new technologies. Nanophotonics is a branch of photonics which studies the interaction between light and tiny amounts of matter, on the nanometric scale. In this lecture, the speaker will be presenting some of the extraordinary optical properties possessed by gold nanoparticles, and describing their applications, placing particular emphasis on how they can provide medicine with new tools.
All those interested in attending are requested to confirm in advance.
