Earth sciences are present in many different areas of our everyday lives, from geohazards, public works, mineral raw materials and energy resources to the ways in which the subject is involved in environmental issues, climate change and the intrinsic recognition of our geological heritage. Discovering, describing, studying and assessing all these aspects has been, and continues to be the principal objective of the Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera(ICTJA), an institution that was named after the renowned Catalan scholar. Ever since it was created half a century ago, ICTJA has become a cutting-edge organisation in the field of Earth Sciences, and has gained international renown. The Institute researches this particular field from a multidisciplinary perspective, tackling challenges from both non-oriented and oriented research while maintaining close links with industry and government.
