Large sectors in the centre and north of the Iberian Peninsula tend to have low population densities, in addition to ageing populations. This situation has been aggravated by an unequal emigration of the sexes, and which has led to a relative lack of women, and foreign immigration that is unable to reverse this long process of depopulation, one which dates back to the 1950s. In this lecture, the speaker will describe the characteristics of this situation, its geographical localisation and the future demographic prospects for these areas.
