The factors that determine economic development. The case of Africa
To what extent do different aspects – such as good national accounting, infrastructure, corruption, liberty, inflation, public deficit, overseas debt, interest rates, confidence in one's own currency, values, saving, good use and functioning of resources and basic water, energy and telecommunications networks – influence the development of different countries? Why do some countries grow and others stagnate? Which measures encourage sustainable development and which hamper it? What kind of development aid is positive? These are some of the main issues – linked with Africa – that will be debated during the lecture.
