Research in the field of micro- and nanoelectronics based on silicon technology is an important instrument for developing studies and their applications in these fields. Current advances in this area are proving decisive to ensure that what are known as "convergent technologies" will increasingly become a reality, and that nano-micro manufacture will help us to tackle the challenges faced by, for example, biomedicine with respect to curing disease. In this way, the creation of motorised nanotechnological mechanisms may bring about a true revolution in this field and in others.
