Explaining the importance of history in a doctor’s training is a challenge, given the current onslaught deriving from a world that views medicine from a strongly biologicist basis. We are not so much interested in knowing what the history of medicine is, as what the history of medicine can provide the doctor, what role the history of medicine can play in the understanding of today's world of the medicine practised today, in the training of the doctor who will be practising tomorrow.
