Most of our environmental problems have two main components: scientific and administration. The scientific problems can be solved through solid research, but many of them require long series of data to enable the researchers to define the origin of the problem, and its solution. Society in general and managers and administrators in particular do not possess such a historical perspective that can enable them to calibrate the seriousness of the problems. In this presentation, the speaker will be presenting a few examples of historical series that can help to illustrate what our marine ecosystems were like, why they changed, the extent of these changes and what we can do to maintain our oceans for future generations.
