Marie Sklodowska-Curie: a Pole in Paris commemorates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first institutes devoted to the application of radioactivity: the Radioactivity Institute of Madrid (1910), the Radium Institute of Paris (1914) and the Warsaw Radium Institute (1932).
The exhibition aims, firstly, to present to the public a woman who was a pioneer in so many different areas: the first female doctor of Science, the first woman university lecturer, academic, Nobel prize-winner (not to mention the first person to win this prize twice), in addition to many other pioneering actions, which culminated in her being entombed in the Panthéon in Paris 1995.
Secondly, the exhibition invites the general public to take a look at the person behind the persona, by highlighting her innate generosity, her sense of dedication and solidarity (which she demonstrated abundantly in the 1914-18 war), as well as her great commitment to her family, to Poland, her country of origin, to France, her adoptive country, and to humanity in general.
In her own words:
You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for our own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.
