The early days of the travelling photographer. Technology, citizens and photographic culture

Thanks to new technological possibilities, as well as to the growth in photographic culture at that time, in around 1900 new methods of portrait photography appeared, using both automatic cameras and produced by itinerant photographers. Thus, machines that were precursors of the famous photo booths of the 1930s emerged at the same time as what were known as “minute” photographers.
Lecture given by Núria F. Rius (lecturer at the Massana school and Pompeu Fabra University. Founding member of the cultural association Fotoconnexió and member of the research groups Gracmon (at UB) and INVBAC (at UPF). In 2011 she was awarded a doctorate, with a thesis devoted to the portraitist Pau Audouard. Two years later, this thesis formed the body of the book Pau Audouard. Fotografia en temps de Modernisme (Pau Audouard. Photography in the time of Modernisme). She has curated several dissemination exhibitions at the La Casa Elizalde Cultural Centre, and has recently co-curated the exhibition Carles Fontserè, photocitizen).
