Joan Ferraté (1924-2003) was one of the most remarkable literature critic and theoretical in Europe in the xx century. He also was known as a rigorous publisher, an incredible poet and an accurate translator. In his case, these aspects were a result of one thing: reading; practice he developed with abnegation and accuracy, and above all, with responsibility. Everything he wrote, especially in poetry, and all his literature, both his original works and those borrowed, were his answer to all his readings that ranged from the ancient classics to those authors who were his contemporaries. This reading accompanied him all his life and he wanted to share with all those who look for a way of experimenting with language through literature; thus, as it usually happens, they find great enjoyment.
Aula Carles Riba and the Residence for Researchers – CSIC-Generalitat de Catalunya offered homage to Joan Ferraté on February 27, 2004. A workshop was devoted to study his personality and the different aspects of his work. The homage acts are presented in this volume.
